DISCLAIMER: I can tell this is going to be a rather rambly post so I apologise in advance!
If someone had told me a few months ago that I'd be heading to Belgium for a few days as part of a work trip I would have called them mad. However a couple of weeks ago I did exactly that and I've been pretty busy ever since, hence the lateness of this post! You can see what I took with me in this post. I think it's funny how life turns out sometimes, whether it's the opportunities you are given or the people you cross paths with, I really do think everything happens for a reason.
I was both apprehensive and excited about going to Belgium (mostly excited) and I have to say I loved every minute of it. Noticing the differences and similarities between cultures is probably what I enjoy most about travelling. I was only there for a few days so there's a lot more I could have seen or done but it did spark within me the confidence and desire to do things out of my comfort zone more often.
Towards the end of last year I did many different ad hoc jobs to keep money coming in while I was searching for the right one. Most of them involved retail or customer service to some extent and even though it was pretty tiring effectively starting a new job all the time, I kind of felt detached from the whole thing because I had other goals to focus on and quite a few years experience behind me in those areas. I'm not saying I was particularly good at those jobs but I felt confident in my abilities to do them.
So when I had to start doing a job I really care about, the insecurities started to creep in. Can I do it? Am I good enough? Keen to not let them gain too much momentum, I've been acknowledging the small things I've done that I'm proud of. Travelling to a foreign country alone. Check. Joining a gym. Check. Starting a YouTube channel. Check. Still finding the time to write here. Check!
You see, there's always going to be something that scares you but situations rarely ever turn out as badly as you imagine and, if they do, there's always a lesson in it. Although I can't say I'll be going skydiving any time soon....
What would you like to do this year for the first time? Let me know!
